The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Cambodian Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) have signed an agreement that provides great opportunities to patent holders in the USA.
According to the agreement, patent holders will now be able to request issuance of a corresponding patent in Cambodia without undergoing a substantive examination of their application by MISTI.
The USPTO has long advocated for work-sharing agreements that facilitate the patent application process by promoting faster, less costly and more efficient patent regimes. This agreement between USPTO and MISTI is seen as an important step forward because it provides for enhanced reliance on the USPTO’s examination work product in MISTI’s grant of a corresponding patent.
